I’m having a hard time sorting out Canadian tax policy on investment funds.
I’m in some great offshore funds, which have been growing by about 12% a month throughout 2006. If things keep going as they are, I will realize a profit of about 400%, expressed in yearly terms.
I was told by a person at rev canada, that I would have to report any growth beyond my original investment as ‘capital gains’ on this. but that only seems to apply if i ‘take out’ money from the fund, sell shares, that is.
I want to leave the money in the fund, so that it grows even faster. I would expect that I have to pay interest on the growth anyway. Can anybody tell me what, if anything, I will have to pay on my growth this year, if I leave it all in the fund.
okay i was wondering if this is possible or did i understand this completely wrong and what other insights could you possibly give me…here is the scenario and tell me if this is possible and blah blah blah:
lets say you invest 0 into a company where their shares sell for .10 cents
so all of a sudden a week later the shares are now selling for .20 cents, this means you just got 00 instead of 0. So of course you like the result and sell the shares and have the 00 in your brokerage account…can you do this? is this allowed? what are the tax precautions? im a real estate guy, so i know when you buy a house and fix it up and sell it you are going to pay that tax usually 40% for the equity…what is it with stocks? can you sell it this fast? or do you have to wait a certain amount of time?
let me know…thanks for all the help
*oh and any other things i SHOULD know about stocks and investing into stocks
i hav some old share certificates in physical form….but we had took on the name of others and we also have the sign of the person on transfer form of changing the name….but we dont know how to sell the certificates….we also can’t open an demat account beacuse the name which holds the share is not now in the world….so..plz help me i m in a urgent need of money….plz answer me that how can i demat that share certificates? how can i sell that ?
I need to scrounge up an extra ,000 dollars for a new car (current one is dying fast, and I am not interested in putting any more money into it).
I’m looking to sell of some of my stocks to raise the cash for the down payment, but not sure which of what I own would be a good sell right now. Preferably one (or ones) that aren’t going to have a lot of gains in the next six months or so, so it doesn’t feel like I lost out on too much to pay for my new ride.
Here’s what I have right now:
Johnson Controls (JCI) 100 Shares
Proctor & Gamble (PG) 100 Shares
International Business Machines (IBM) 50 Shares
General Mills (GIS) 100 Shares
I realize this is highly speculative, but how would you sell to get K out of the moarket, given those positions?
My sis and i want to buy our isp’s fastest speed and split the bill half and half and use the same connection. is this possible? if she gets her own router and signs into my account will it log me off? is it legal? i heard it was only illegal to sell it, and i dont see anything wrong with sharing a connection. I have my own router i just wanna know if my sister can log into my dsl account if she buys a router and sets it up at her house and then we can be on at the same time. i dont see why it shouldnt be possible.
(no dumb answers pls
)
OK here we go. Hi I just want to know where I can find a way to make some money fast by this week so my family can enjoy a good Xmas this year. This will be our 3 year without Xmas and I been looking for a job almost everyday and still no luck. I try to get help in my town and got turn down and every place I go they won’t help me. People don’t understand I need a job and it does no good for me. I have done everything I could and people tells me go online and they pay you but there always a catch you have to pay them money which I don’t have even it’s only 3 bucks and I don’t have the money. I sold about every thing I can sell to survive on and don’t have nothing left. Why do I always get the bad lick? It makes me sick when people ask me have you done your Christmas shopping yet? Then when I go to a friend house they have piles of gifts all over and that’s make me even more sicker. I hate being poor. Why can’t I get a job? Why can’t I have a enjoyable holiday? No not me all I get nothing but bad luck and I do know I am a 100% loser I have done every thing I could to get help and all I get is laugh at. I have to be homeless in order to get help and that will happen soon. they like saying as long your under a roof you don’t need help, You know what make me sicker? Big shots giving hands out to people that need help and I’m not there to get a share of it. I hate rich people that laugh at you and say we are going to have a wonderful Christmas this year. Jobs don’t want to hire a guy who is 70% deaf and diabetic and has a bad knee. But if I can’t get the help I guess we can survive another year without Christmas to all the people out there I hope you have a wonderful holidays and pray for us that we will get help soon. PS one more thing can anyone please tell us where we can find a way to get money fast please
