If you’re trying to sell a timeshare, be prepared for a long road. You should target current timeshare owners. It’s rare to have a non-owner decide to purchase a timeshare resale out of the blue. While ebay and to a lesser extent, craiglist can be used, there are only a few die-hards who go there to pick up good timeshare properties.

You might want to try places like Redweek or Timesharing Today magazine.

There are companies that will guarantee your timeshare be transferred out of your name for a fee. Timeshare Relief is the leader there.

None. You need to call the outfit managing the timeshare and see if they will buy it back. If you have an outstanding mortgage you are stuck. Mortgage paid in full then list it on ebay and you might get 500 for it. I just donated one week to the Disabled Veterans and it was mortgage free
Every company wants 3600 up front and no guarantee of selling it.

I agree, you are stuck if you don’t own it outright.

If you do, donation, ebay, or the timeshare company itself are usually the only quick options.

Selling a timeshare can be really tough. You will be lucky to sell it for half of what you bought it for. If you are still making payments on it, you may find you still owe money on it after you sell it. If you insist on selling it quickly, you are likely to get less money than if you take your time. The Timeshare User’s Group (tug2.net) has some information on how to sell a timeshare. Options include selling it on online sites, advertising in the paper, and selling on E-bay. I wish you the best. I work for a company called Donate For a Cause. http://www.donateforacause.org . We have a guaranteed program to get the timeshare out of your name. We only accept about 10% of the resorts under our free program, the other 90% we are able to accept but there is a fee. You do receive a tax receipt for the fee, as well as the appraised value of the timeshare (generally 70-85% of the original purchase price) . There are other companies that charge around $3500, and do not offer the tax receipt. Generally the whole process takes 6-8 weeks. Guaranteed to be free from anymore maintenance fees and special assessments.

    Hi Karen,

I listed my timeshare for sale for 5 years and never got one inquiry on it. I even lowered it to $1 on the site thinking someone would buy it for $1 and pay the closing costs. It never happened. I eventually started looking into the Timeshare Giveaway Program. I was getting estimates of like $1200-$3500 to get it out of my name and then I stumbled upon http://www.money4timeshares.com and called them. They offer to buy timeshares if they are worth money. I knew my timeshare was worthless and the guy apologized. Before I let him off the phone I asked "Is there absolutely anything you can do to help me?" He said "If you just want to give it away, I’ll charge you what the closing company charges us-$600." I figured continuing to pay maintenance fees for another few years or if I found a buyer, I was going to have to pay the closing costs anyway! I paid Rob Pickel (with money4timeshares) $600 at 4pm on a Friday night (this was back in May) and by 10am on Monday morning the closing company had called me and began closing the timeshare to get it out of my name. It took about a month, maybe 5 weeks and I’m timeshare-free! I called my old timeshare company and they had no record of my name. Pretty cool. Good luck to you becoming timeshare-free yourself.
