This will be our 2nd trip to cancun, and I remeber last time we were immediatley greeted by the people there selling timeshare. Yeah we get some kind of excursion for a great deal but we have to give them 90 minutes of our time which turns into 8 hours because they try to get you to do time share. But anyways how do we avoid them, better yet how do you avoid them? Btw I saw this on 20/20 too last friday and some of them are scams……:(
A timeshare is a form of ownership or right to the use of a property, or the term used to describe such properties. These properties are typically resort condominium units, in which multiple parties hold rights to use the property, and each sharer is allotted a period of time in which they may use the property. Units may be on a part-ownership or lease/”right to use” basis, in which the sharer holds no claim to ownership of the property. The notion of the term “time-share” was originally created in Europe in the 1960s. A ski resort developer (Hapimag) in the French Alps marketed his vacation resort through encouraging guests in order to “stop leasing the room” as well as instead “buy the hotel”. Subsequent achievement followed, and also the idea had been rapidly accepted through developers globally, improving product sales associated with surplus condominium units at any given time when the resort business had been depressed. Due to the guarantee associated with exchange, these types of models, known as “vacation ownership” by the industry, frequently market no matter their deeded vacation resort (most are deeded into a particular vacation resort site, though other forms of use are available). What isn’t often disclosed is the fact that all differ in buying and selling power. If your are in The islands or even The southern area of California it will exchange well; nevertheless, individuals areas are some of the most costly in the world, subject to demand typical of a highly trafficked vacation area.
Most timeshare tours consist of a minimum 90-minute product sales presentation on the timeshare resort or revenue center, guided by a salesman, an offer of some sort of snack or meal, and ending with a person or a lot more salesmen (and generally the sales manager) encouraging as well as pressuring for any pay for. The business sending the guest on the timeshare resort normally receives some sort of referral fee, which has resulted inside a big number of companies that offer you timeshare tours as an incentive.
Timeshare Exchange is often confused with Timeshare Sales. RCI is in the business of timeshare exchanges. It does not develop or sell timeshares. Customers who buy a timeshare with an RCI-affiliated developer have the option to become a paid member of RCI. Such membership entitles them to exchange (swap) their timeshare with other members. RCI facilitates and fulfills the exchange.Although RCI does not develop or sell timehares, it does sell Points Program to use in the RCI affiliate resorts network. More information about the Points programs that RCI sells can be found on the company’s website. Also Wyndham Worldwide, RCI’s parent company does develop and sell timeshares having several resorts around US which are listed in RCI’s resort directory.
Timeshare firms determine which countries they will accept friends from. If married or cohabiting as being a couple, each spouses or partners ought to attend. Singles are qualified differently. Guys must typically be married, although ladies can generally get away with getting single (and occasionally they even reduce the minimum income necessity). It is simply because from the perception that it truly is simpler to promote the timeshare to a woman than it is to some man.
Each resort typically makes it possible for one particular tour per year.Commonly a timeshare tour is thrown in as either a bonus or a necessity for paying for some product from a organization, generally 1 which is vacation related. Telephone surveys, vacuum cleaner salesmen, and more, offer incentives to buyers who are prepared to listen to them this kind of as being a “3 day/ 2 night time stay” in Las Vegas, San Francisco, or other well-liked family vacation destinations. These incentives are, in reality, a commitment to carry a timeshare tour.
Vacation businesses leverage their current contracts with timeshare hotels to present a lot more competitive holiday getaway deals, this type of as free hotel remain, show tickets, etc… These will usually be provided in the form on the “$99 dollar getaway package”, which will call for a several evening remain, tickets, etc with the necessity that the traveler qualify for and acquire the timeshare tour.
Some timeshare tours can extend well beyond the level of time initially quoted for your tour and can require the application of high quantities of pressure by several income agents. Occasionally, a free gain will be denied or delayed till the guest agrees to purchase in the resort, but it is only the case if the firm just isn’t a credible one particular.

Just say "No gracias" and keep walking. Try to be nice/polite these people are just trying to make a living. If you are polite and they continue to bug you then feel free to lash out violently. ; ) Just kidding on that last point, but you don’t really have any obligation to acknowledge them or be nice to them at that point.
One thing you should consider though, many of these people are handing out "Cancun tips" Magazines, they are worth taking for the coupons, maps and general info on the area. I usually just take the magazine but politely tell them I’m not interested in anything else.
Personally, my husband and I keep walking and just ignore them. This happens everywhere in Puerto Vallarta also! It is annoying & some might be scams, so your best bet is to keep walking and don’t stop to listen! They are just trying to earn a living but if you are not interested, well, you are not interested!
Ignore them and don’t make eye contact. Or just say you have a ride waiting so you are in a rush.
This is a simple problem to avoid…. don’t stop to talk to them, just keep walking and tell them you aren’t interested. Main thing to remember here is to not give in. Think of it like the ppl at the mall trying to sell you on their credit card, or the perfume testing lady in a department store, you just say "No thanks" and keep walking. Good luck!
THE BEST WAY TO AVOID THEM IS JUST NOT TO MAKE EYE CONTACT AT ALL AND KEEP WALKING. PRETEND YOU DO NOT EVEN SEE THEM…….THAT WAY THEY WILL SEE NO WEAKNESS. KEEP WALKING UNTIL YOU GET THROUGH THE GLASS DOORS AFTER THE LAST SECURITY CHECK POINT. DO NOT STOP FOR NOTHING. IT IS NOT WORTH THE FREE TOURS THEY OFFER…..DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY ATTENTION. I NEVER HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THEM BECAUSE I DO NOT GIVE THEM OPPORTUNITY TO APPROACH ME.
My husband and I just kept talking to each other, and ignored them all as we went past. We didn’t even acknowledge that we saw them. No one tried to stop us.
One thing that works well is to simply tell them that you already own a home in the area.
No tengo interesa. No Deseo nada and deja me solo
I have no interest I wish nothing and leave me alone will get them off your case and it is not really rude but if they dont want to give up on you then use the last and wave your pointer finger back and forth while pointing it to the sky.
I am quite sure that all Mexicans understand the pointer from a very young age
Another that will chase them of is Aqui vivo Ya tengo una casa.
I live here. I already have a house.
Remember they make a living selling things(God Bless Them) I dont like being hounded by the guys that say "Hey chew lukeing for a massage o una senorita"
Say no and keep walking
They won’t stop bother you unless you say:
"Thanks, I have bought one already, that’s the reason I’m here"
"Gracias, Ya compré uno, por eso estoy aquí"
For the best advice call 1-888-862-3806. The Mexico Experts, they are in Cancun and can arrange everything.
Famous statement "We own time share" but I don’t even make eye contact with then. That workd too.
Put your head down and keep walking till you get out of the terminal. Don’t stop, don’t ask questions, keep going till you get out. You will see your tour operator representative with a sign if you have transfers included.
If they insist, just say no thanks and keep walking. They are very friendly and pushy. Just say NO.
Good Luck and have a great trip)
