Ok so I needed some cash so I decided reluctantly that I would have to sell some shares. I rang the brokerage place that handles my stuff, gave my a/c no, got told the current market price for the shares, but was told as the Aussie market was about to close he could put them out there and see if anyone bought them. (the guy had accent that I had a bit of trouble understanding) anyway then he asked what price I would like to list them as, as the market price was currently -75 I said . I don’t know what he said next. Then he repeated all the details and hung up. NOW i don’t know how to tell if the shares sold (besides checking my bank a/c balance in 3 days time) I don’t know how long they put them out there at that price. Is it just till midnight tonight? so do they contact me tomorrow if they didn’t sell? help I just needed some cash fast NOW i am worried that its not going to b fast just because I plucked a figure out of he air.

any help would be appreciated from the hopeless investor.

I am wondering if-and then how-a corporation continues to make money off its shares sold in the market. More specifically, once initial shares are sold, does a corp. continue to make $ every time the shares are traded? If not, can a corp. offer a new batch of shares any time it needs capital and, if so, is this considered a new IPO (if not, how would an investor know about the new shares)?

Thanks.

I’m talking about RTP here. Since I didn’t own any shares in it, I’m sell shorting. It’s strange coz it’s not going down with the rate I expected. I don’t understand why it isn’t going down coz any investor in their right mind would be selling on the spot, wouldn’t they?

So the real question is: Why isn’t the price going down (or at least going down fast enough for a quick buck!)?

Relax guys. I’m a complete newbie and I’m doing this with a Virtual Stock Exchange program.
As for the stock, it’s today’s highest gainer and it’s the one looking like it’s going down.
There is no news or insider transactions (which I think is very curiours and I’m looking the company up on the internet now).
(It’s at 440 now, made 200$ so far :D )

I am new to this market and to trading. It appears that with instantaneous news I am at a major disadvantage with regards to upswings that occur for moments at time and are gone until the next time that I don’t get the news fast enough to work with and most of the market declines on a daily basis as I see it. I think I am better and have better odds of picking losers than I do winners. So if I want to make money, it looks like I need to sell short which is actually buying it because I have to allocate money to sell it short because I borrow shares for a price from another investor, right …and then buy when the stock takes enough of a dip that I can make the money back on the way up. Is there a time limit on selling short that you have before you have to buy the shares back or is that indefinite? So for instance I think the shares will go lower than a certain dip, can I wait til I think the stock is at is lowest dip?
