The first piece of advice if you’re purchasing a timeshare is to make sure you don’t believe everything you hear, either negative or positive, about timeshares. Maybe you have a family member who tells you not to buy a timeshare because you’ll never be able to trade for better locations, or a salesperson promising you if you buy you’ll always be able to trade for any location. The person advising you against it might have had a timeshare in a bad location, and the salesperson might be trying to hustle you to unload a less than desirable location… just make sure you are informed and don’t just listen to what one person has to say about your purchase. And that leads us to our next tip… always do your homework, which I’ll tell you about next time.

Question by Frenchy: How do you sell a timeshare with RCI Points?
My Nan is now a widower and has a timeshare she no longer requires. Attached to the time share is 109,000 RCI points. Does any one know the best way to go about this?

Any usefull information will be highly appreciated.

You cannot even give these away. The best is try and donate it to some charity just to get out from under the maintenance fees.

travelwishtv.com Sometimes you will go to a timeshare sales pitch and the salespeople and sales manager will try their best to pressure you into making a purchase you are not sure about. Do not get backed into a corner by high pressure salespeople. If they are applying heavy pressure, it’s often because they are trying to get you to purchase a bad product or because they are not good at their job. Either way, these people only have a sale on their mind, and they are not worried about you and your future vacations. If you feel overly pressured by a salesperson, walk away and say no. You have no obligation to purchase from them, especially if they are being aggressive to the point of obnoxiousness. You need a clear head when you are making a major purchase like a timeshare, and high pressure salespeople will not help you achieve that. And don’t worry, there are plenty of nice timeshare salespeople who won’t try to pressure you into a decision you don’t want to make.

Question by gregoryb96: What happens if you default on a timeshare?
I have a timeshare that a can no longer afford to pay for. The financial services department of the resort says it will count as a foreclosure and is very bad for my credit. Is this just what they say to get you to pay? What’s the worst that can happen?

If you want to take that Hawaii trip, trade week at your condo for a week in a bungalow on the tropical island paradise… you’re not going to have trouble finding someone who wants to spend a weekend in Vegas, I promise you. The most important thing about getting a trade for a great destination is that you have to own a Timeshare at a great destination yourself… nobody is going to trade you a week in Hawaii for a week in your room in Ohio. Make sure that you are purchasing a timeshare in a highly coveted destination if you want to play the timeshare trading game. But if you love Ohio and are content with spending a week there every year, then by all means, purchase a Timeshare in the Buckeye state.

I am planning a trip to Orlando this summer and want to sign up with some companies for a timeshare presentation to save some money and get free tickets, etc. I have heard that some even give out 0. Any suggestions on how to go about this, what companies to look into and where to sign up? Thanks in advance!
